guten Morgen / good morning Filicudi! Aussicht von meinem Zimmer / view from my room, Hotel La Canna, Filicudi

Heute Morgen erwachte ich eine halbe Stunde vor meinem Wecker, kurz vor 7 Uhr, das frühe Tragflügelboot - die sind auf jeder Insel unüberhörbar! - hab ich aber nicht gehört... Die grossen Wellen liessen mich erahnen, dass mein Vorhaben einen Tagesausflug zur letzten der Äolischen Inseln Alicudi, sehr wahrscheinlich buchstäblich ins Wasser fallen würde...

This morning I woke up half an hour before my alarm clock, just before 7 am, but I dind’t hear the early hydrofoil – actually you always hear them arriving and departing on all islands! The big waves made me guess that my plan of a day trip to the last of the Aeolian islands Alicudi, was very likely not to happen...

Eine Stunde später beim Frühstück bekräftigte Grazia meinen Verdacht: Für heute war die Schifffahrt eingestellt! - Was gab es da mehr als erst einmal das Frühstück zu geniessen und einen Plan B zu schmieden? Ich konsultierte verschiedene Wetterkanäle und die prophezeiten, dass das Wetter kaum besser werden würde... So lautete mein Plan B das nächstmögliche Schiff (Tragflügelboot oder Fähre) nach Milazzo, Sizilien zu nehmen. Schliesslich bin ich hier auf einer der abgeschiedensten Inseln und nächste Woche sollte ich meinen Rückflug in die Schweiz antreten können, da mich eine spannende Stellvertretung in der Schule Leimbach erwartet!

An hour later at breakfast Grazia reaffirmed my suspicion: For today, all shipping traffic was cancelled! - What more was there to do than firstly enjoy my breakfast and then make a plan B? I consulted various weather channels and they prophesied that the weather would not get much better... Thus my plan B was to take the next possible ship (hydrofoil or ferry) to Milazzo, Sicily. After all, I'm here on one of the most secluded islands and I should be able to take my return flight to Switzerland next week, as I was awaited for an exciting substitution at the school of Leimbach!

Wie 2012 auf den Azoren respektiere ich immer die Höhere Gewalt und akzeptierte, dass ich nun wieder eine Insel nicht besuchen konnte... Im Wissen, dass alles aus einem guten Grund geschieht (auch wenn man ihn im Moment nicht erkennt, aber vielleicht um nochmals zurückzukehren?), setzte ich mich mit meinem Laptop ins Restaurant des Hotel La Canna: Ich hatte immer noch die Arbeit eines Tages aufzuholen - was mit super Internet und einem Glas Weisswein Vergnügen machte. : ) Am Nachmittag liess der Wind nach und ich legte mich an die milde Sonne am Pool und hatte endlich Zeit mich etwas auszuruhen...

Like 2012 on the Azores, I do always respect Force Majeure and accepted that once again I missed out one island... Knowing that everything is happening for a good reason (even if I do not recognize why at the moment, but perhaps it is meant to come back once again?), I installed myself with my laptop at the restaurant of the Hotel La Canna. I still had to catch up on my work of 2 days - which was a pleasure with super internet and a glass of white wine. : ) In the afternoon, the wind slowed down and I took a deck chair in the mild sun at the pool and finally had time for a rest...

Am Abend musste ich mich dann doch noch etwas auspowern! In den letzten Sonnenstrahlen - teils auf Strassen teils auf Mulattiere - joggte ich nach Pecorini Mare, das ich bisher nur aus der Ferne kannte. Zum Schwimmen war der Wind entschieden zu heftig und kühl, kälter als das Wasser, so liess ich es für einmal bleiben um nicht noch in den letzten Tagen eine Erkältung einzufangen! Dafür wurde ich mit einem dramatischen Sonnenuntergang über Alicudi entschädigt. : )

In the evening I felt to move myself and my energies! : ) In the last rays of the sun - partly on roads and partly on mulattiere - I went for a run to Pecorini Mare, which I only knew from afar up to now. For swimming the wind was decidedly too violent and cool, colder than the water, so I let it be in order not to catch a cold in my last few days here! Instead I was compensated with a dramatic sunset over Alicudi. : )

Nach ein paar Dehnungsübungen ging es dann auf einer Mulattiere das erste Stück sehr steil bergauf bis ich wieder joggend zur Strasse gelangte, die mich fast eben zurück zum Hotel La Canna führte. - Nun hatte ich die knapp 10 km² kleine Insel Filicudi fast ganz zu Fuss (joggend und wandernd) abgecheckt.

After a few stretching exercises, I first had to climb up a very steep mulattiera until I reached a level, where I could continue jogging to the road, which led me back to the Hotel La Canna. - Now I had checked out quite the entire almost 10 km² small island Filicudi on foot (jogging and hiking).

Abendessen im / dinner at the Hotel La Canna, Filicudi

Zum Abendessen setzte ich mich ins Hotelrestaurant, wo ich bereits am ersten Abend vorzüglich gegessen hatte. Grazia, die Seele des La Canna, zauberte mit viel Liebe ein peruanisches Rezept auf den Tisch: Causa (Kartoffelpüree gefüllt mit Gemüse), dazu bestellte ich ein Thunsteak – sehr lecker!

For dinner I went to the hotel restaurant, where I had already an excellent dinner on the first evening. Grazia, the soul of La Canna, does magic in the kitchen and served a Peruvian dish with lots of love: Causa (mashed potatoes stuffed with vegetables), which I combined with a tuna steak – just delicous!
