Heute Morgen ging ich nochmals joggen auf Salina - wer weiss ob dies auf den beiden kleinen Inseln Filicudi und Alicudi möglich ist... Diesmal rannte ich Richtung Norden, zuerst dem steinigen Strand entlang dann auf der Strasse bergauf - zum Glück habe ich gestern beim Aufstieg auf den Fossa delle Felci (962 m) geübt! ; ) Die heutige Herausforderung war die endlose Treppe in Portella zu den Ausgrabung der Bronzezeit... ufff! : )

This morning I went for a run on Salina once again - who knows if this will be possible on the two small islands of Filicudi and Alicudi... This time I ran direction north, first along the stony beach then on paved roads uphill - fortunately I have practiced on my ascent to the Fossa delle Felci (962 m) yesterday! ; ) The challenge today was the endless staircase in Portella to the excavation of the Bronze Age... ufff! : )

Zurück am Kiesel- oder besser gesagt Steinstrand Spiaggia Barone gleich vor der Tür des Hotel La Goletta di Salina ging ich schwimmen im herrlich warmen Meer (immer noch 25 Grad!). Da niemand weit und breit zu sehen war, stieg ich nackt in die ruhige See - einfach immer wieder ein geniales Gefühl, zudem kann ich so mit trockenen Kleidern weiter…

Back at the pebble or rather stone beach Spiaggia Barone just in front of the door of the Hotel La Goletta di Salina I went for a swim in the wonderfully warm sea (still 25 centigrade!). Since nobody was to be seen far and wide, I plunged naked into the calm sea – just a great feeling again and again, in addition I can continue with dry clothes...

Giuseppe, Bongiorno Rent, Santa Marina, Salina

Heute stand eine Inselbesichtigung mit einem Mietfahrzeug auf meinem Programm. Es gibt nicht viele Vermieter auf Salina und nur gerade Bongiorno Rent in Santa Marina. Wie immer kläre ich meine Anfragen per e-mail vorab… da ich keine genaue Antwort auf meine Frage das Auto von Mittag bis Mittag zu mieten bekam, rief ich zusätzlich an. Die fadenscheinige Antwort am Telefon war: Wir werden uns schon einig... Als ich dann heute Nachmittag im Büro stand, wollte der Angestellte EUR 80 für 24 h und sagte er vermiete nur tageweise! - Wir einigten uns schliesslich auf EUR 60 (immer noch zuviel, sowie auch die Miete eines Scooters!) aber so spar ich mir morgen wenigsten das Taxi, das eh auch überteuert ist (EUR 12 für 800 m!). Das Erfreuliche war, dass ich Giuseppe aus der Schweiz wieder antraf… ihn habe ich am ersten Abend hier kennengelernt und überraschenderweise arbeitet er bei Bongiorno! Zum Einstieg gab es Malvasia, den Dessertwein der Insel, vielleicht aber auch nur, weil ich gleichzeitig mit eine Reisegruppe eintraf? - Jedenfalls freute ich mich die Insel Salina auf eigene Faust zu entdecken! : ) Salina ist übrigens nach Lipari die zweitgrösste Insel des Äolischen Archipels mit einer Grösse von 27 km².

Today an island visit with a rental vehicle was on my programme. There are not many rental companies on Salina and just ony Bongiorno Rent in Santa Marina. As always, I clarify my inquiries by e-mail in advance... since I did not get an precise answer to my question to rent the car from noon to noon, I also called them. The flimsy answer on the phone was: No worries, we will manage to come to an agreement... When I stood in the office this afternoon, the employee wanted EUR 80 for 24 hours and said they only rented for the day! - We finally agreed on EUR 60 (still too much, such as the rent for a scooter!), but at least I save the taxi tomorrow, which is also overpriced (EUR 12 for 800 m!). The good news is, that I met Giuseppe from Switzerland again... I met him on my first evening here on Salina and surprisingly he works at Bongiorno! To get started, there was Malvasia, the dessert wine of the island, but maybe only because I arrived at the same time with a tour group? - Anyway, I was happy to discover the island of Salina on my own! : ) By the way, Salina is after Lipari the second largest island of the Aeolian archipelago with a size of 27 km².

Zuerst fuhr ich Richtung Norden, wo ich heute Morgen bereits beim Joggen war, und dann der Nordküste entlang nach Malfa. Viele Fotos später nahm ich die Strasse zwischen den beiden erloschenen Vulkanen Monte dei Porri und Monte Fossa delle Felci (den höchsten Gipfel der Äolischen Inseln mit 962 m, den ich gestern bestieg) nach Rinella. Bei Daniela im L'Osservatorio di Rinella machte ich einen Rast im Wind und Schatten sowie meinen beiden nächsten und letzten der 7 Inseln im Blick: Filicudi und Alicudi. Heute war es sehr heiss: 28 Grad - vielleicht einer der letzten heissen Sommertag hier?

First I drove direction north, where I was already jogging this morning, and then along the north coast to Malfa. Many photos later I took the road between the two extinct volcanoes Monte dei Porri and Monte Fossa delle Felci (the highest peak of the Aeolian Islands with 962 m, which I climbed yesterday) to Rinella. At Daniela's L'Osservatorio di Rinella I took a break in the wind and shadow as well as my two next and last of the 7 islands in sight: Filicudi and Alicudi. Today it was very hot: 28 centigrade - maybe one of the last hot summer days here?

Dann ging es weiter nach Pollara, ganz im Westen der Insel. Hier erwartete mich eine atemberaubende Kulisse, wo übrigens ein Teil des Filmes Il Postino gedreht wurde: Das Wasser um die Felsklippen mit seinen in Höhlen gegrabenen Fischerwohnungen ist sooo klar, da muss man einfach rein! : ) An diesem malerischen Ort traf ich meine Zimmernachbarin Noemi aus Australien wieder, wir genossen zusammen die inspirierende Atmosphäre und einen spektakulären Sonnenuntergang! : ))

Then I drove to Pollara, in the very west of the island. Here a breathtaking backdrop awaited me, where incidentally a part of the film Il Postino was filmed: The water around the cliffs with its fishermen's dwellings dug into caves is sooo clear, you just have to get in there! : ) In this picturesque place I met again Noemi, my room neighbour from Australia, together we enjoyed the inspiring atmosphere and a spectacular sunset! : ))

Den wunderschönen Nachmittag schlossen wir mit einem leckeren Abendessen bei Carmelo und Mauro in der La Locanda del Postino in Pollara ab. Wie immer stand Fisch auf meinem Speisezettel, diesmal ein gegrillter Capone - der hiesige Fisch der Saison, der letzten Samstag hier in Rinella mit einem alljährlichen Fest gefeiert wurde.

The wonderful afternoon we concluded with a delicious dinner at Carmelo and Mauro in La Locanda del Postino in Pollara. As always fish was on my menu, this time a grilled capone - the local fish of the season, which was celebrated last Saturday here in Rinella with its annual festival.
