Letzte Nacht habe ich richtig gut durchgeschlafen bis mein Wecker mich um 9:30 Uhr aus meinen Träumen riss - ich wollte Sonia heute nicht wieder strapazieren... aber ich brauchte den Schlaf: Für mich ist Schlaf die beste Medizin! : )

Last night I slept really well and all through until my alarm clock tore me out of my dreams at 9:30 am - I did not want to overuse Sonia again today... but I needed my sleep: For me, sleep is the best medicine! : )

Heute war es richtig heiss, so brach ich erst um 14:30 Uhr auf für meine Wanderung zum höchsten Gipfel der Äolischen Inseln: Fossa delle Felci 962 m. Zum Glück kam eine grosse, fette Wolke als ich den Aufstieg begann - trotzdem war ich nach einer halben Stunde bachnass! Ich kenne das gar nicht von mir, früher habe ich kaum geschwitzt... das nächste Mal nehme ich ein Ersatz-T-Shirt und Frottiertuch mit.

Today it was really hot, so I did not leave until 2:30 pm for my hike to the highest summit of the Aeolian Islands: Fossa delle Felci 962 m. Fortunately, a big, fat cloud came up when I started the ascent - nevertheless, I was soaking wet after half an hour! I am not used to that as I hardly sweated in the past... next time I'll take a extra T-shirt and towel with me.

Nach 2 Stunden pures Treppensteigen erreichte ich den Gipfel und stellte mich erst mal in die Sonne um zu trocknen... unterdessen genoss ich die sensationelle Aussicht und telefonierte ich mit meiner Mutter wie jeden Tag, sie hat kein Internet um meinen Blog zu verfolgen und Demenz (mittlerweile weiss sie aber dass ich in Italien bin!)…

After 2 hours of pure climbing stairs I reached the summit and first placed myself in the sun to dry off... meanwhile, I enjoyed the fantastic view and called my mum like every day; she has no internet to follow my blog as well as dementia (by now she knows that I am in Italy!)...

Dann ging es in den letzten Sonnenstrahlen ebenso steil begab nach Lingua. Ich bin einige Male ausgerutscht, denn habe nur meine Joggingschuhe dabei… : ( Die Aussicht auf mein Ziel Lingua mit seinem Lago Salata sowie Lipari und Vulcano im Hintergrund war einfach nur atemberaubend und aufmunternd. Später übernahmen Kakteen- und Olivenhaine das Sichtbild. Es gibt übrigens 70 endemische Pflanzenarten im Archipel. Zudem sah ich heute alle andern 6 Inseln während meiner Wanderung, bin aber auf der ganzen Strecke keiner Menschenseele begegnet! Dank maps.me habe ich alle Wanderwege und sogar Abkürzungen gefunden! : ))

Thereafter I walked down to Lingua in the last rays of the sun as steeply as it went up. I slipped a few times because I only brought my jogging shoes with me... : ( The view of my destination Lingua with its Lago Salata and Lipari and Vulcano in the background was just breathtaking and encouraging. Later on cactus and olive groves took over the visual image. By the way, there are 70 endemic plant species in the archipelago. In addition I sighted all the other 6 islands during my hike today, but there was not another soul to be seen on my whole hike! Thanks to maps.me I found all the trails and even some shortcuts! : ))

Genau richtig zum Apero traf ich bei Liviana und Gessi im Il Gambero in Lingua ein. Hier war ich gestern Morgen schon beim Joggen! Da ich nun auch ein kleines Hüngerchen verspürte, bestellte ich ein Thunsteak mit Caponata (sizilianischer Gemüsemix)... zum Dessert gönnte ich mir ein Fior di Latte Eis mit Mangos aus ihrem Garten - mmmhhhhh!!! Die letzten 3,5 km bis nach Santa Marina fuhr mich Carmeno mit dem Shuttlebus des Il Cambero – und zwar bis vor die Tür des La Goletta di Salina! Ich denke nicht dass ich erwähnen muss, wie froh ich darüber war!? : )

Just right for an appetizer I arrived at Il Gambero in Lingua. Here I met Liviana yesterday morning on my run! Since I felt also a bit hungry, I ordered a tuna steak with caponata (Sicilian vegetable mix)... for dessert, I treated myself with a fior di latte ice-cream with mangos from their garden - mmmhhhhh!!! The last 3.5 km to Santa Marina I was driven by Carmeno and the shuttle bus of Il Cambero - and right to the door of La Goletta di Salina! I don’t think I have to mention how happy I was about that!? : )

Heute hätte ich echt bis am Mittag schlafen können, so müde fühlte ich mich nach den ultra-energiereichen Tagen auf Stromboli! Aber um 8:30 Uhr ging mein Wecker, denn heute stand Sport auf meinem Programm - schliesslich geh ich bereits seit 30 Jahre 3 Mal die Woche eine Stunde joggen (und wenn möglich auch schwimmen)! Zudem ist es immer eine geniale Gelegenheit die nähere Umgebung auszukundschaften... Kurz vor 9 Uhr war ich bereit den Weg Richtung Süden nach Lingua (3,5 km) auf mich zu nehmen. Ich rannte zwar fast alles auf der Strasse, aber es war eh niemand unterwegs... Die betörenden Düfte, vor allem die des Jasmins auf allen Inseln, machen die morgendlichen Ausflüge neben dem visuellen auch zu einem olfaktorischen Erlebnis! : )

This morning I really could have slept until noon, that tired I felt after the ultra-energetic days on Stromboli! But at 8:30 am my alarm clock went off, because today sports was on my programme - after all, I'm going for an hour’s run (and swim if possible) 3 times a week already since 30 years! In addition, it is always an ingenious opportunity to explore the surrounding area... Shortly before 9 am I was ready to hit the road direction south to Lingua (3.5 km). I ran almost all on paved streets, but it was not too bad as there was nobody anyway... The beguiling scents, especially those of jasmine on all islands, make the morning excursions in addition to the visual an olfactory experience! : )

Tropfend vor Schweiss machte ich einen doppelten-Espresso-Halt im Ristorante Il Gambero... und beim Stretching kam Alfredo, die Insellegende, auf mich zu und anerbot sich mir seine wunderschöne Insel zu zeigen... vielleicht morgen... oder übermorgen? - Mal sehen... Ich rannte erst mal zurück zum La Goletta di Salina und genoss mein Frühstück. Sonia gab mir alle Zeit der Welt: Sie hielt sogar das Frühstücksbuffet für mich länger offen, weil ich nicht gerne mit vollem Magen laufe. : )

Dripping with sweat, I made a double-espresso stop at the Ristorante Il Gambero... and while stretching Alfredo, the legend of island, came up to me and offered to show me his beautiful island... maybe tomorrow... or after tomorrow? - Let's see... I first ran back to the La Goletta di Salina and enjoyed my breakfast. Sonia gave me all the time in the world: She even kept the breakfast buffet open for longer because I don’t like running with a full stomach. : )

Den Rest des Tages ging ich ruhig an - ich brauchte wieder einmal richtig Zeit für mich selber um mich zu zentrieren... so viel war passiert in den letzten Tagen und in der Nacht lag ich 2 Stunden wach... Es war bewölkt aber mit perfekten Temperaturen: 26 - 28 Grad am Tag und 24 in der Nacht. Ich erholte mich am Strand, holte das Schwimmen von heute Morgen nach (Wassertemperaturen: super angenehme 25 Grad!) und machte einen grossen Service um mich vom vielen Salzwasser und dem vielen schwarzen Sand, der sich zwischen alle Ritzen eingelagert hatte, zu befreien. Dazu gehörte auch ein Besuch bei Catarina, ganz in der Nähe, die mein strapaziertes Haar wieder auf Vollglanz brachte!

The rest of the day I spent peacefully - I urgently needed time for myself to centre again... so much had happened in the last few days and during the night I lay awake for 2 hours... It was cloudy but with perfect temperatures: 26 - 28 centigrade during the day and 24 at night. I recuperated on the beach, catching up with swimming I had missed this morning (water temperatures: super pleasant 25 centigrade!) and did a big repair service to get rid of the many salty waters and the black sand, which had accumulated between all wrinkles. This included as well a visit at Catarina’s, situated very close by, who brought my damaged hair back to full glory!

Wie neu machte ich mich kurz vor 20 Uhr in der Dunkelheit (Sonnenuntergang ist bereits vor 19 Uhr!) auf zum 5 Minuten entfernten Casa lo Schiavo - Fornelli e Putia (würde ich mit Haus und Herd übersetzen), das mir gestern Abend auf dem Rückweg aufgefallen war. Eigentlich hatte ich nur vor einen Apero zu nehmen und Fotos vom wunderschönen Restaurant zu machen... aber die energetische Marian aus der Dominikanischen Republik (das ich 2015/16 unter anderem intensiv bereiste) nahm mich sogleich in ihren Bann, sodass ich den ganzen Abend dort verbrachte! Und das war gut so, denn ich verspeiste nicht nur meinen besten Pesce Spada (Schwertfisch) bisher, sondern traf zufälligerweise (wenn es das überhaupt gibt!?) Alberto von heute Morgen und meine Zimmernachbarin Noemi aus Australien... : )

Like new, in the dark shortly before 8 pm (sunset is already before 7 pm!) I walked 5 minutes to the Casa Lo Schiavo - Fornelli e Putia (I would translate it with hearth and home), which I had noticed yesterday evening on the way back to the hotel. Actually, I just intended to have an appetizer and take some photos of the beautiful restaurant... but the energetic Marian from the Dominican Republic (which I travelled among others extensively in 2015/16) immediately cast a spell on me, so that I spent the whole evening there! And that was a just fine, because I did not only have my best pesce spada (swordfish) so far, but coincidentally (if that exists!?) met Alberto from this morning and Noemi from Australia, the girl staying next door at the hotel... : )
